I discovered OpenEd at ISTE 2014.(They won Best of Show for their assessment tool) At first, I wasn't sure what it was. I thought maybe it was like a collection of educational freeware programs, like OpenOffice or gimp. But was very surprised at how wonderful and useful opened.io really is. OpenEd is the largest K-12 educational resource library, offering over a million videos, games, assessments, and exercises for every Common Core Math, Language, Arts, Literacy, and Next Generation Science standard (in addition to other state and international standards). AND IT IS FREE! Well, mostly free. they just recently added some premium content where you can use Pearson and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Riverside test banks with your classes, but this is optional.
The content within OpenEd is not original content, but has been curated from Open Educational Resources (like youtube, Kahn Academy, Learn Zillion, etc) from around the internet and then categorized to grade levels, subjects, and standards. It's the categorizing and the ability to search through these that makes this site so worthwhile. Along with the categorized searching of resources, they also have an integrated assessment tool which is what won them Best of Show at ISTE 2014. What makes this assessment tool so special is that it is the only free assessment tool for “modern style” assessment items such as found on the Smarter Balanced and PARCC tests. You can read more about their assessment tool on OpenEd's blog.
They also have an app that has been extremely popular, reaching as high as #5 in the Apple App Store and Google Play. The App is called Common Core Quest Apple App or Google Play. The app allows students to take quizzes on Common Core Math and Language Arts skills. It then recommends specific videos to watch and games to learn based on what the student is struggling with. For those schools with Chromebooks or laptops, you can access a web version at CCQuest.opened.io.
